Dirt is Good Part2

In today's world we are getting introduced to new diseases then and there. Another research done by a Finnish physician and University of Helsinki researcher, Mikael Knip shows us the reason for "Why Dirt is Good!!".

Finland has the world's highest rate of Type1 Diabetes among children. 64 out of every 100,000 kids are diagnosed with the disease annually. It mostly affects children, adolescents and young adults. This disease rate was not always high in Finland. Type1 Diabetes rate was less than a quarter of what it has now in the early 1950s. Even though it is a well developed country and ranking no.4 in Quality of Life in the whole world, the people were suffering from such a horrible disease. Not only Finland, Many Industrialised nations are facing this problem along with autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and celiac disease. This led to the research of Knip to find the mystery behind it.

The rate of Childhood Type 1 Diabetes in Russian Karelia is one-sixth that of Finland. Even though both have same amount of population in most areas and Finns are even seven times richer than the neighbor. Just the 500 miles boundary between the two nations shows this vast difference.

The Idea is Dirt!! Finally the Research proved that it was the germ-laden dirt that seems to matter. Children of full time farmers are found to have fewer allergies than their non farming peers. Similar studies from all over the world proposed
that the more microbial agents that children are exposed to early in life, the less likely they are to develop allergies and autoimmune diseases later on. Studies also showed that baby mice kept in sterile environments were more likely to face autoimmune disease, seeming to back what came to be called the “hygiene hypothesis.”
